needless to say I got it fully out of system.
and I cant see ever doing a mega again.

darkshines

there are many things to be said about blackbirds. In general when one thinks of blackbirds, just as blackcats, they think of misfortune.
Im finding in this life, not everything is as it seems. And what you think you never wanted , could be the very thing you always needed.
you can find the brightest light in the darkest places.

Sweet dreams are made of this

Ive been dreaming again.
For a while there I wasn't, then I started thinking maybe as one gets older the dreams stop. Other things become more dominate in the mind, and silly dreams don't stick. It was upsetting. I could do without the apocalyptic dreams, but it felt as if adulthood was taking another thing away.
I recently read this article on dreams, a mans theory on the subject was that, dreams are a way for your mind to prepare you for the day. That's Bush league stuff to me. We go from the collective unconscious to that? Different strokes Different folks I guess.

Masters of the Universe

well, I finished, framed and shipped my pieces for the "Masters of the Universe" show @ gallery 1988.
and these are them
"The origin of the Sorceress" oil on canvas - 11x14 - framed

they asked the artists to reinvent the characters, So I decided to "reinvent" the Sorceress. I bit more tribal and primal.
"Plastic Princess" oil on canvas - 16x20 - framed
I had to do a piece on She-ra, for obvious reasons. What girl didnt want to be She-ra back in 85?

Ode to Rietta

"Ode to Rietta" - 11x14

Rietta Wallenda was a member of the famous family of aerialists, 'The Flying Wallendas.' She was Karl Wallenda's sister-in-law. She fell to her death from the wire while performing in 1963
this isnt her portrait, just an homage to those who provide wonder and amazment to the world.

The Last Act

"The Last Act"20x24

"I didn't want any flowers, I only wanted
To lie with my hands turned up and be utterly empty.
How free it is, you have no idea how free -
The peacefulness is so big it dazes you,
And it asks nothing, a name tag, a few trinkets.
It is what the dead close on, finally; I imagine them
Shutting their mouths on it, like a Communion tablet" ~
Sylvia Plath

"The Daydream Procession"

"The Daydream Procession"
16x20

you know when you daydream, you stare at an object and you drift off into space, and for a little while your not here. I used one of those weird ceramic animal/wagon planters as a reference, I actually own a few, and are some of my favorite items. Shes off in a daydream, but yet shes standing still. Bored and tired of the show, but knows she has to go on, and deep down she really knows she dosent ever want to leave the show.
" you say you dont want it/ again and again,/ you say you dont want it/This Circus were in/but you dont really mean it". - Tori Amos

The Juggler's Constellation

"The Jugglers Constellation" - 16x20

I like it when things tie together naturally. Sometimes with a painting I dont know exactly what Im doing. I like to have it planned out ahead, but sometimes it dosent work that easy.
Jugglers are a give in when you think about the circus. And the word "juggling" is easily associated with trying to balance many things at the same time.
I think the constellation reference comes from one of my favorite Bjork songs "Desired Constellation", she sings about rolling the stars like dice, to make a desired picture in the stars for herself. And I kept thinking about that song while painting this. Shes juggling her stars, her desired picture in the sky, and its all in her hands. To keep things aligned is hard to do, and sometimes you just have to much, you cant see the big picture anymore.
The word "Kirkos" is the origin of the word circus, which means circle, which I felt was appropriate for this piece.

The Midnight Circus

The opening for Circus Mobius was this Saturday. It was such a good time. I arrived a liitle late and forgot my camera in the car, then remembered half way through the show. oh well.
for each show I do I like to release a new print. I chose this piece for the print. Since I felt it was the center of my pieces.
"The Midnight Circus" - 24x36

The whole idea behind the show, as a never ending cycle, at some point you get tired and weary.
And as the year is coming to the end, and getting ready to start over, reflection is good.
This painting in particular, her woes are surrounding her. I like to use a domestic setting to symbolize an intimate situation. your home is your base, and your bedroom is the most intimate room.
And this girl is being invaded and overcome. Shes lost control, and situations are now overtaking her. When all she wants is rest, and normalcy.
