song #2

almost 20 years old. Still love this song.
this album came out around the time I started getting into painting,  I remember staying up all night listening to this while painting on cardboard.
I even listened to this album today while working on my new pieces

paper cuts

here are some sneak peeks of pieces that I have done for a 2 person show in September.

just a couple for now.
Im working bigger these days, so each piece is taking a little longer than normal.

The idea for the pieces in this show started off inspired by the Antique paper dolls I have. These fragile, thin paper dolls like a metaphor for childhood. Such a delicate state and so easily torn.
The pieces will be like a sequence of stages, beginning to end. Innocence, the damages and then the reconstruction. Using the adversity to rebuild.

So I will be posting sneak peeks of the pieces along the way.
I will have more info on the show within the next month.

here are a few of my favorite Art Student owl memes floating around the Interwebs

and here is one I made
I almost titled my piece this but I didnt.

Gallery 1988 Anniversary show

this flyer is brilliant.
yes its an "Meme" art show.
Its amazing how many people dont know what a Meme is, I had to explain it every time someone asked what I was working on. Maybe they arent on the Internet as much as I am.

there is a whole site dedicated to the explanation of Meme's, their origins and all that. It can make your head spin.

here is a sneak peak of my piece

precious things

the other day I was in my studio painting.
while I paint I usually think about the piece, I learn who this girl is and figure out her story.
at this particular moment, my son was in my studio with me, which he never is.
I was listening to my music on random, and a song that was once of much importance to me as a teen came on.
I have the piano score tattooed on my arm.
And I said to my son " this is the song that I have tattooed on me" " this album came out when I was about your age"
and it was one of those moments, when everything came together.
Referring to the piece I was painting, my son sitting next to me, my feelings toward the song as a angsty teen, and my understanding of it all at my age.

it took 15+ years for me.
and its things like this that serve as a reminder, that things get better, if you let it, and if you want it too.

Who's afraid of David Lynch?

Have i mentioned how much I Love David Lynch? Probably.
Recently I bought Twin Peaks: Fire walk with me.
I watched it with my husband, and hes not too much of a Lynch fan, some of it he shakes his head at.
I understand his ideas can come off too artsy fartsy, but to me Lynch is nothing but sincere and in no way contrived.
His works all feel pure and honest.  Its the kind of art you can feel, and it makes you want to know more.
I like art that needs no explanation in order for you to like what your looking at.
Not saying it has to be easy, but if you cant feel something, then whats the point.

some of his paintings

"boy lights fire"

"This Man Was Shot"

"Rat Meat Bird"

this piece David took a piece of meat and left it outside so maggots and bugs will invade it. Then placed it on a canvas, with a dead rat. Why do I like this? Maybe I feel David can do no wrong in art. Whatever.

David was a painter first, but wanted his works to "move", so he got into film making
ever seen this?

this is one of his first films.
It was inspired by his wife's niece, who one night in her sleep kept reciting the alphabet in a "tormented" way.
In a way its how I see his work, dream like. Why did his niece do this in her sleep? Who knows, but its those subconscious things that arise in his work, pure and straight from the source.

anyway, Im pretty excited to start work on my first Lynch tribute piece.

where are you going?

"He says that behind my eyes Im hiding
and he tells me, i pushed him away, that my heart has been hard to find
there must be something here
there must be something here
...............................................................
I know your late for your next parade
you came to make sure that Im not running
well I ran from him
 in all kinds of ways
guess it was his turn this time

time
thought I made friends with time
thought wed be flying
well maybe not this time

****

last night I dreamt I was drunk. I dont drink. But I got drunk and I accidentally killed a little man who lived inside a jack in the box. I didnt know he was in there and threw the box in a drunken state. I opened the box and this little dead shriveled man fell out. I felt horrible.

lately I can remember my dreams pretty well. they have been very vivid, Ive been drawing some out. One day I'll paint a collection of just dreams.

I was told this existed, and I guess it does. Neat!

Also I cant believe there is a site dedicated to Adult Swim bumps!
