I picked this one for a few reasons. 1: Ive always wanted to paint Siamese twins. 

2: this card reminds me and my sister and I. 

and 3: Im a gemini. 

plus I like bloody noses and black eyes

Garbage Pail Kid - sneak peak!

I havent posted in a while. 

Ive been painting a ton!

So why not post a little peak at my piece!

can you guess which card this is based off?

I had a real hard time picking one just one! 

Of course if there would have ever been a card using my first name, I would of had no problem!!

I still cant believe there isnt one card with my name! Out  of all those cards! 

This missing piece to my childhood. *sigh* 

I can not wait to see what the other artists have done!

Did you collect Garbage Pail Kids? Me and my sister had a good collection. 

Of course we ended up getting rid of them while growing up. REGRETS!

But the past 4 or 5 years me and my son have been re-collecting them.

Its been super fun. I go to comic stores and flea markets with my checklist! ha! 

well Ill be honest, I always have the checklist in my purse!! 

I spent a lot of my time drawing these cards as a kid, either for friends or myself. 

 I actually learned a lot from these cards, so its pretty cool to be an adult and re-creating what was a big part of my childhood.

Pee Wee!!!

Pee wee was a big part of my life growing up. 

Just like those who grew up with Howdy Doody or Bozo, we had Pee Wee! 

I freakin adored him!!

I think he helped make it ok too be a little weird and to run wild with your imagination.

When  I was 9 I got hit by a car and was in a body cast for a whole summer. And that whole summer I watched Pee Wees Christmas Special over and over. I taped it off television, and would rewind it and rewind it. My poor mother !!

I also spent my time that summer making his playhouse out of my legos.  So yeah, He made that awful summer better!

 Im so happy to be able to pay tribute to him!

"My Baloney has a first name"

I dont think many remember Billy Baloney. But I love Billy! His name alone rocks my socks. 

One of my biggest regrets, I was at a flea market and saw a Billy Baloney doll in the box still, and I didnt buy it!!

Glamour and Glitter

I forget how old I am sometimes, and just assume all girls grew up in the 80's.

During the festival this weekend, people loved my Jem painting, which I found odd because most didnt know who she was. So here is the opening I remember so well. And in case you missed it Jem is her name

Rainbow Brite, and Jem are finished. They are waiting to be framed. Framing is my favorite part. A good frame really seals the deal.

its funny, I complain so much about the hippies who never shut up about the 70's, and here I am painting 80's cartoons. oh well. real images of these pieces soon.

today is Sunday

this summer has been strange so far. Pretty opposite from last year. A lot of re-evaluating and all that jazz.

It must be the time I have on my hands.

I finished my little homage to Strawberry Shortcake. I rather enjoyed painting her hat.

I remember being a little girl listening to my Strawberry Shortcake records, I would sit and draw. I would try to draw the way the music made me feel, but I could never do it.

Im not sure but I really think this greeting card character could have single handedly molded a great deal of my mind.

next on the list: Gem, and Rainbow Brite.

Ive been wanting to try out some techniques, but I never have a chance.

But I finally got some time and have a chance to try some stuff out.

I decided to do some 80's inspired paintings for kicks. They will be my test subjects I suppose.

Masters of the Universe

well, I finished, framed and shipped my pieces for the "Masters of the Universe" show @ gallery 1988.

and these are them

they asked the artists to reinvent the characters, So I decided to "reinvent" the Sorceress. I bit more tribal and primal.

I had to do a piece on She-ra, for obvious reasons. What girl didnt want to be She-ra back in 85?

I remember never getting tired seeing Adam change into He-Man .

Same goes for She-ra.

I also remember playing with my cousins He-Man toys, and since I was a girl they would make me play with the Orko toy, I could never be a "cool" guy.

So of course I was thrilled when Gallery 1988 invited me to be part of their " Under the Influence" show which this time around is dedicated to "The Masters of the Universe"

Ive been watching the episodes on Hulu (awesome). Yeah, when your young you dont realize a lot. Its pretty funny. I never noticed how they always had to say something cheesy before attacking a villian. So clever that He-Man!
